Frequently Asked Questions
The most common questions about Google Play closed testing and the TestLaunch.io process.
Requirements & Process
Closed testing is a stage where you make your app available to a limited, invited group of users before pushing it to production. Google Play requires new developer accounts to complete this closed testing stage before they can publish.
Since 2023, Google Play requires newly created personal developer accounts to complete a closed testing process with at least 12 testers. The goal is to ensure the app has actually been tried by real users.
After 12 testers join the closed test, an uninterrupted 14-day active testing period must elapse. Testers must keep access during these 14 days; the requirement isn't met until the period completes.
The requirement primarily applies to personal (individual) developer accounts created in 2023 and later. If you fall under this scope, you can't push your app to production until closed testing is complete.
Until you meet the closed testing requirement, your app's production release stays locked. In other words, you can't publish on Google Play until the 12 testers and 14-day period are complete.
After you sign up and pick a package, all you need to do is share the closed testing invite link you created in Play Console. Our testers join the test through that link.
Security
All testers are verified, real users who run tests on real Android devices. We don't use bots or emulators, which is why the process stays compliant with Google Play's criteria.

Technical
Testers join through the standard closed testing invite link or email list you create in Play Console. No extra technical setup is required.
After you share your closed testing link, testers usually join the next business day, with first participation starting in about 24 hours. The active testing period itself is 14 days.
